Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged
Program Description
The Pharmaceutical Assistance Program provides financial support to seniors with an annual income of $18,000 or less for individuals, or $30,000 or less for couples, to help cover prescription drug costs. Participants pay a one-time enrollment fee of $5.00 for an identification card, which is renewable every five years. A co-pay is required for each prescription at the time of purchase.
Eligibility
To be eligible for SPAP, you must be 60 years of age or older and a VI resident for at least 6 months. You'll need to provide proof of age, residency, medical status, and income with your application. If you receive Medicare, you must be enrolled in Medicare Part A, Part B, or both. SPAP also requires enrollment in an approved VI Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan. You cannot be covered by a private insurance plan that pays for all or part of your prescription costs on a continuous basis—this does not include Medicare Part D. Medicaid beneficiaries are not eligible to participate in SPAP.
