Serving St. John Since 1996
Their Mission
St. John Rescue is an all volunteer organization dedicated to saving lives, providing community education, and building a better way of life for the people of St. John.
Their Story
St. John Rescue, a non-profit organization, was incorporated on November 30, 1996 after several volunteers met monthly under a tree for a year following Hurricane Marilyn in 1995. We are an all-volunteer organization on the small island of St. John, in the U.S. Virgin Islands, dedicated to providing emergency rescue and medical support services to local EMS, Police, Fire, National Park, and Health Clinic personnel. After Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, St. John took the lead in coordinating the many emergency response agencies that arrived on island and conducted an island-wide search to find residents who needed help.
New Headquarters
From those early meetings under a tree in Cruz Bay, and through several temporary locations, St. John Rescue had not had a permanent home for 23 years. Prior to Hurricanes Irma and Maria, the V.I. Housing Finance Authority provided an initial grant to purchase land on Gifft Hill and a second grant provided funding for a new headquarters building. This was completed in the early fall of 2020.Our building has a training room to host community trainings, it is fully solar, with a large back-up generator, so that we can be fully operational in case of an emergency. We also house the island's only oxygen generator for medical use.
